Bean cultivation is gaining momentum in the Narsingdi district as its yield brings a boon for the farmers.
Farmers usually cultivate beans on abandoned lands and on the premises of the house, however, many farmers are cultivating beans on a commercial basis.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), over 12000 hectares of land have been brought under bean cultivation in the district as many farmers have changed their fortune by growing beans.
Talking to the media, farmers said they have improved their livelihoods and economic condition through homestead vegetable cultivation especially bean farming.
Five to six mounds of bean might be plucked from one bigha of land in a week, they added.
At the beginning of the season, the bean was sold at high prices, however, the prices come down with adequate supply gradually. – BSS
