B’baria train collision death toll climbs to 18

The death toll rises to 18 as two more people died who were injured in a fatal collision between Turna Nishita and Udayan Express in Mandbagh railway station under Kasba Upazila of Brahmanbaria.
One died at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on Saturday and another at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased - Tara Harijan, a resident of Noakhali’s Sudharam Upazila and Dhalai Mia, a resident of the Bublakhal area of Habiganj Sadar.
Akhaura Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shyamal Kanti Das said a person named Harijan, who was injured in Kasba’s train accident, died at CMH hospital in Dhaka on Saturday night. “However, his death was reported on Sunday night.”
On the other hand, an elderly named Dhalai Mia who was injured in the same accident was undergoing treatment at ICU in Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, died on Sunday afternoon.
Quoted as Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Director Brigadier General Dr. Yunusur Rahman, the OC Shyamal Kanti said that Dhalai Mia had a serious head injury. “Seven injured people were taken to hospital and discharged after initial treatment. But Dhalai Mia’s condition was serious,” he added.
