Bay of Bengal trawler capsize: 20 fishermen rescued

A fishing trawler named FB Sima-2 belonging to Anshar Khan of Badurtala village in Patharghata upazila capsized after being caught in a storm in Lashmi area of ​​Kachikhali adjacent to Sundarbans.

The incident took place about 120 km south-west of Patharghata. 

The fishermen were rescued floating around 9 am on Friday about 18 hours after the incident. However, the trawler could not be recovered. Earlier, the FB Sima-2 trawler with 20 fishermen sank at around 3 pm on Thursday due to strong winds.

Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, president of the Barguna District Fishermen's Trawler Owners' Association, said 20 fishermen of FB Sima-2 trawler owned by Anshar Khan were caught in the storm and were waiting to cast their nets. Then the trawler sank in a sudden storm. At that time, with the help of another trawler nearby, 20 fishermen of the sinking trawler were rescued but the trawler could not be rescued.
