Barrister Mainul gets 6 months bail

Barrister Mainul Hossain has received six months’ bail in two defamation cases filed in Rangpur and Jamalpur for defaming journalist Masuda Bhatti during a TV talk show on October 16.

At the same time, the High Court has called for six months of suspension of the proceedings of the case. 

The bench of Justice Rezaul Karim and Justice Zafar Ahmed granted bail to Mainul on Wednesday.  

Khandker Mahbub Hossain was present on behalf of the state. Advocate Masud Rana supported him.

Several cases were filed against Barrister Moinul in different districts of the country over defaming journalist Masuda Bhatti. Earlier, he received bail in three cases. The adviser of the former caretaker government got bail in total five cases so far as he was granted bail in more than two cases.

Mainul who was connected to a talk show program, ‘Ekattorer Journal’, through a video conference aired on a private TV channel, Ekattor TV, made ‘offensive comments’ against journalist Masuda Bhatti on October 16.

Later, Masuda Bhatti filed a defamation case against Mainul in Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court. Another case was filed in the court of Jamalpur Chief Judicial Magistrate with the same accusation. Barrister Mainul, however, took bail from the High Court in both cases.
