Barishal division sees record deaths by COVID, symptoms

31 people died at 5 hospitals in 24 hours in the Barishal division, among these, 13 died of Covid-19 and 18 died with COVID-symptoms – the highest number in the division. During this, 798 people were detected with the virus with a detection rate of 55.85 percent at the RT-PCR lab.   

This information was obtained from the director of divisional Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and the director of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMC) on Monday.

“Based on district COVID situation data shows that a maximum of 282 people was detected in the last 24 hours, bringing the overall caseload to 14,415. Besides, 7,672 people were recovered. With the four deaths in the span of 24 hours, the death toll climbs to 162,” informed Dr. Basudeb Kumar Das, director of divisional DGHS. 

129 new patients were detected with Covid-19 in the Patuakhali district, bringing the overall caseload to 4,546. With the 2 deaths in 24 hours, the death toll soars 84. Besides, 2,681 people recovered.   

160 new patients were detected in the Bhola district, bringing the overall caseload to 4,064. With the 6 new deaths in 24 hours, the death toll rises to 40. Besides, 2,492 people recovered.   

Bhola has reported 160 new cases, with this, the total number of COVID cases stood at 4,454 in Pirojpur. One died in 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 73. During this, a total of 2,730. 

With the 83 new cases, Barguna district has reported the total Covid-19 cases to 3,026. Although no death was reported in the 24 hours, a total of 73 people died of the virus in the district. 1,819 people recovered.

With the 62 new cases, Jhalokati district has logged the total Covid-19 cases to 4,122. Although no death was reported in the 24 hours, a total of 61 people died of the virus in the district. 2,042 people recovered.

SBMC’s Corona unit has reported 22 Covid-19 deaths, 18 died with symptoms and 4 died of Covid-19 in the span of 24 hours. Besides, one each died at Dumki Upazila Health Complex, Kolapara Upazila Health Complex, 6 died at Bhola Sadar Hospital and one COVID patient died at Nesarabad Upazila Health Complex.  

Zakaria Khan Swapan, an information conservator of SBMC, said 47 people were admitted to the hospital’s isolation ward in the last 24 hours. Of these, 18 people have died with symptoms. There are currently 311 patients in the hospital. Of these, 114 are Covid-19 positive and 197 are undergoing treatment at isolation. 

In 24 hours, 188 samples were tested in the RT PCR lab. Of these, 105 were detected as positive and 81 as COVID negative, he added.
