Brazilian and Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho will join Barcelona after Liverpool agreed to sell him in a deal that makes him one of the most expensive players in football history.
British media informed that the Spanish club will pay about 142 million pounds ($244 million) to buy Coutinho from Liverpool which is making it the third most expensive transfer in soccer history.
Coutinho`s transfer cost is surpassed by Paris Saint-Germain when they brought him a world record 222 million euros from Barcelona before the French champions and then agreed to pay Monaco 120 million euros for Kylian Mbappe in a deal that activated officially when the striker`s loan is period.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told the club´s official website that it is with great reluctance as a team and a club to say farewell to a good friend, a wonderful person and a fantastic player in Philippe Coutinho.
He also said that since Philippe wanted this move to happen and Barcelona made their move to sign him in their club.
Barcelona official club said that Coutinho will sign a contract for the rest of the season with five more seasons and he needs to conclude some personal terms and pass a medical examination.
Signing Coutinho allows Barcelona to move on from the bitter experience of losing his Brazil teammate Neymar last summer.
French media group beIN Sports informed on Saturday that Liverpool will immediately spend 55 million euros of their windfall on Leicester striker Riyad Mahrez. They declared that Mahrez will have a medical examination at Liverpool on Sunday before penning a four-year contract.
However, Liverpool said that they will offer supporters a £50 voucher who bought shirts bearing the name of Coutinho.
