Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman said that his side are not among the favorites to win this season’s Champions League.
Koeman expressed his frustration as the Catalans have made a stuttering start to the new season.
Ronald Koeman made the remarks while speaking ahead of Tuesday’s visit of Hungarians Ferencvaros in their Champions League Group G opener.
“When you’re at Barcelona you always want to be there fighting for trophies, be it in La Liga or Europe. We aren’t the favorites, but we can go far,” he told to the reporters.
Barcelona’s recent Champions League failings continue since last winning the competition in 2015. In the meantime, the club have played just one semi-final.
However, the performance of Lionel Messi, captain of the team, is questioned after their continuous failure. But Koeman does not want to lose confidence in him right now.
He said, “When you see him on a day-to-day basis, he’s happy and wants to play and be the team’s captain. I don’t have any complaints or doubts about his effort.”
