Barcelona recorded their first league victory away from home since late April with a 2-0 win at Getafe on Saturday afternoon at the Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

Luis Suarez scored minutes before half-time thanks to the rarest of sights, an assist from goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, before another unlikely source, Junior Firpo, pounced on a rebound to hit Barcelona's second of the day early in the second half.

In addition to the injury suffered by Lionel Messi in midweek against Villarreal, Ousmane Dembele was sidelined again with yet another knock, as was starlet Ansu Fati, which paved the way for Carles Perez's return to the starting XI up top with Suarez and Antoine Griezmann.

The two sides traded chances in the first half-hour, with Suarez getting a couple cracks at goal, while Ter Stegen had to come to the rescue and make a big block of an Angel Rodriguez chance.

As has been this case often this season when playing away from home, Barcelona looked bereft of ideas, but out of nowhere the Catalans would find the first goal and from the most un-Barcelona of ways.

Ter Stegen came well off his line to make an intervention by chesting the ball down to himself before hoofing a long ball up to Suarez, who hit the most perfect of chips over Getafe 'keeper David Soria and in for a 0-1 lead.

It was Route 1 football at its very best and perhaps the first time in eons that a Barcelona goalkeeper registered an assist.

Minutes after the restart, Barcelona notched their second and again it came from an unlikely source, this time Junior Firpo being the man who was at the right place at the right time. Sergi Roberto drew in three players before finding Carles Perez, and the stinging shot from Perez was spilled by Soria and fell right to Junior, who coolly slotted home for a 0-2 advantage.

The second goal allowed Barcelona to take full control and play their possession football all to their liking without any rush.

They managed to carve out another few chances, one a Perez shot that sent wide after surgical pass from Arthur Melo, and the second a long-range effort from Arthur that just missed with Soria off his line.

Things did get a bit more complicated in the final 10 minutes when Clement Lenglet was sent off with his second yellow card, and Angel should have finished a header from point-blank range but instead it sailed over the crossbar.

In the end, Barcelona got the job done to secure their first away win of the season, and will now turn their attention to Champions League action on Wednesday against Inter.
