Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on Thursday said that Italy has withdrawn a flight embargo for Bangladeshis with valid stay permits.
The minister said in a statement that Italy took the decision following Bangladesh’s request, the flight ban has been lifted for Bangladeshis who have valid visas to stay in Italy.
However, those whose permits have expired will have to apply for a visa. Matters relating to the validity of their visas will be checked by the Italian police and then their visas will also be issued.
The Italian ambassador to Bangladesh said they would try to complete the police check as soon as possible. Italy will not issue regular visas yet. The withdrawal of this flight ban is only valid for those with valid permanent permits and expired stay permits, subject to approval by Italian authorities.
Earlier on July 9, Italy banned the entry for Bangladeshis until October 5 and the ban has now been extended to December 31.
