Bangladeshis’ average life expectancy increased

The average life expectancy of people in Bangladesh has increased in a year. In 2019, the average life expectancy of the people of the country was 72.6 years. By 2020, it has increased by 2 months to 72.8 years.
This information has come up in a report ‘Report on Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics-2020’ of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics. The report was officially unveiled at the Statistics Building Auditorium in the capital’s Agargaon on Monday.
It has been reported that the average life expectancy is higher for women than men. The average life expectancy in women is 74.5 years while the men’s average life expectancy is 71.2 years.
Bureau of Statistics report said as per the latest statistics, the current population of Bangladesh 16 crores 80 lakh. The report has been prepared by collecting data from 2,012 sample areas across the country under the third phase of the Monitoring the Situation of Vital Statistics of Bangladesh (MSVSB) project.
According to the report, the life expectancy as of 2020 is 72.8 years, which was 72.6 years in 2019. Besides, the average life expectancy in 2018 was 70.8 years, 70.6 years in 2017 and 70.3 years in 2016.
Meanwhile, the life expectancy is higher for women than men. The average life expectancy of men in 2020 is 71.2 years. It was 71.1 years in 2019, 70.8 years in 2018, 70.6 years in 2017, and 70.3 years in 2016.
In the case of women, on the other hand, the average life expectancy has increased from 72.9 years to 74.5 years between 2016 and 2020.
“The medical system has been developed. People can easily get treatment. Moreover, food intake has increased than before. There have been comparative progress in nutrition. People’s awareness has increased. All in all, the average life expectancy has increased,” said Project Director AKM Ashraful Haque.
Director General of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics Mohammad Tajul Islam gave a welcome address on the occasion. Planning Minister MA Mannan was the chief guest. Secretary of Statistics and Information Management Division Mohammad Yamin Chowdhury presided over the function.
