A schoolgirl was stabbed by a young man at her house at the city's Motijheel AGB Colony on Thursday.

The injured was Joya Mondal, 15, daughter of Anti-Corruption Commission Inspector Gopal Chandra Mondal and a Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee from Motijheel Ideal School and College.

Omar Faruque, officer-in-charge of Motijheel Police Station, said the youth, Habib, 30, stormed the girl's residence at a four-storey building of the colony around 3pm when she was alone at the house and stabbed her in the head.

Hearing her screams, locals rushed in, caught Habib and handed him over to police after giving him a good beating.

The injured youth was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital under custody.

However, the reason behind the attack could not be known yet.
