Bangladeshi film ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ selected for Cannes

This year, a Bangladeshi film titled ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ directed by Abdullah Mohammad Saad took place in the official selection of France’s Cannes Film Festival.
The list of selected films for the 74th edition of the Cannes Festival was announced on Thursday (June 3) at 3 pm Bangladesh time at the UGC Normandie Theater in Paris, France.
The event was attended by General Delegate Thierry Frémont and President Pierre Lescure. The press conference was broadcasted live on Cannes’ official website, YouTube channel and Facebook page.
Azmeri Haque Badhon has played the lead role in the film. “This achievement is for the whole of Bangladesh. Today we got the result of our hard work and waiting. We are proud to be able to add the name Bangladesh to the official selection of this festival,” she said.
Meanwhile, filmmaker Abdullah Mohammad Saad has made his mark in 2016 with the film ‘Live from Dhaka’.‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ is his second film.
Meanwhile, this year’s festival is being held in Cannes, France from July 6. Those involved in ‘Rehana Maryam Noor’ are dreaming of a bigger surprise.
Asked about the context of the film, the director said the story of the film is centered on “Rehana Maryam Noor”, a teacher in a private medical college - where Rehana lives a complex life as a mother, daughter, sister and teacher. One evening while leaving the college, Rehana witnessed an “unexpected” event. Thus, the story is progressing so far.
The film is produced by Singaporean producer Jeremy Chua, executive producer Ehsanul Haque Babu and co-produced by Rajib Mahajan, Adnan Habib and Saidul Haque Khandaker under the banner of Protocol and Metro Video.
The film’s cinematographer is Tuhin Tamizul, production designer Ali Afzal Ujjwal and sound designer Shaib Talukder. The film is co-produced by Sensemakers Productions.
The film also stars Afia Zahin Jaima, Kazi Sami Hasan, Afia Tabassum Borno, Yasir Al Haq, Saberi Alam and many more.
Meanwhile, the Saad-Badhon team is floating with wishes on Facebook after receiving such news. In an immediate response, Amitabh Reza, one of the country’s leading filmmakers, said, “There has never been a better day in the history of Bengali cinema.”
