Major General Mahbubur Rahman, director general of Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA), said Bangladesh would receive the Russia-made Sputnik-V vaccine by May. Initially, the government will purchase 40 lakh doses of the vaccine.

He said this in a briefing on Tuesday at 1.30pm. Earlier, the Technical Committee of the Department of Drug Administration held a meeting on vaccines. The meeting decided to approve the emergency use of Sputnik-V vaccine developed by Russia.

He said Russia's Sputnik V was approved for emergency use in our country. As a result, there is no longer any legal impediment to the import and use of this vaccine.

Mahbubur Rahman said that not only the import of this vaccine from Russia but also the production in the country is being discussed. In the meantime, Incepta is also talking to Russia. There are more pharmaceuticals in the country producing vaccines. Hopefully, it will be possible to produce this vaccine in the country.
