Bangladesh to launch `Jogajog` as alternative to Facebook

A new social media platform 'Jogajog' is being made in the country as an alternative to Facebook. The ICT department has taken this initiative to make the country self-reliant.

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak came up with the declaration while addressing as the chief guest at the virtual inaugural function of 'Entrepreneurship Masterclass Series 2' organized by Women e-Commerce (WI) on Friday.

Junaid Ahmed Palak said that through this, local entrepreneurs will no longer have to depend on a foreign platform. Entrepreneurs will be able to create their own online marketplace and group for information, data, and communication. 

The state minister for information and communication technology said the ICT department has already developed  'Boithok' as an alternative to Zoom Online and 'Surokkha' apps for Covid-19 registration. A platform called 'Alapan' has also been created as an alternative to WhatsApp for its own communication.

He said the e-commerce, hardware, software, and BPO sectors will be able to meet the target of more than 20 lakh jobs by 2021. Besides, it will be possible to earn $5 billion by 2025.

Rezaul Maqsood Jahedi, Additional Director General, Department of ICT, Soumya Basu, CEO and Global Advisor, Silk Global, Nasima Akter Nisha, Founder and President, Wii, and Kabir Shakib, Advisor to Wii were present on the occasion.
