The deadly coronavirus which spreads all over the worldwide claiming 32,137 lives so far, while 6,83,503 people infected with the virus and that increases the demand for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) wants to export PPE equipment after meeting domestic demand.

BGMEA President Dr Rubana Huq said, "Our ultimate goal is to export PPE to the rest of the world and we want to do it very fast," on Sunday.

In the face of Covid-19, garments owners have already extended their hands to help create PPE following the government's standard for health workers.

The BGMEA chief said they are already in a discussion with a coalition of ILO, WHO, WFP, UNICEF and other organizations and sought help from them to expedite the process of converting production capabilities available in Bangladesh to produce PPE.

Currently, BGMEA is planning to make at least 20,000 PPEs to be donated. Rubana Haque said many members of BGMEA are currently distributing clothing. We also plan to buy some clothing and fund it. Fabric factories that are members of BGMEA are also selling fabric at low prices as a sign of solidarity.
