Bangladesh sees record 212 deaths from Covid-19

Bangladesh reported single day highest 212 coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the deaths toll to 16,004.

“The tally of infections has surged to 10,00,543 as 11,324 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours, which is the highest daily cases,” Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said today in its routine daily statement.

Among the dead in the last 24 hours, 119 were male and 93 were female. Highest 73 deaths reported in Khulna division while 53 died in Dhaka division.

DGHS said 30.95 percent of the 36,586 samples collected in 24 hours were tested positive while the infection rate was only 2.30 percent just on February 8 this year as, during the late winter season, the rate started decreasing sharply.

The recovery count rose to 8,62,384 after another 6,038 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the same time.

The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 86.19 percent recovered, while 1.60 percent died.

Earlier, 164 virus deaths, the highest single-day spike, and 9,964 fresh cases were reported on Monday (July 5). On the other hand, 199 Covid-19 deaths and 11,651 cases were reported yesterday.
