Bangladesh reports highest ever 164 deaths from Covid-19

Bangladesh reported highest ever 164 coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours, the biggest single-day jump since the pandemic hit the country, taking the deaths toll to 15,229.

“The tally of infections has surged to 954,881 as 9,964 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours, which is the highest daily cases,” Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said today in its routine daily statement.

Among the dead in the last 24 hours, 109 were male and 55 were female. In the past 24 hours, highest 55 Covid-19 deaths recorded in Khulna division and 40 in Dhaka division.

DGHS said 29.30 percent of the 34,002 samples collected in 24 hours were tested positive while the infection rate was only 2.30 percent just on February 8 this year as, during the late winter season, the rate started decreasing sharply.

The recovery count rose to 8,38,082 after another 5,185 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past one day.

The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 88.87 percent recovered, while 1.59 percent died.

Earlier, 153 virus deaths and 8,661 fresh cases were reported on Sunday (July 4).
