Bangladesh reports 3114 coronavirus cases in a day, 42 die

The tally of infections in Bangladesh has surged to 156,391 after 3114 new COVID-19 cases were detected in the last 24 hours. Besides, 42 more fatalities from the virus have been reported during the time, rising the death toll from the pandemic to 1968.

DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) online on Friday.

A total of 14,650 samples have been tested at 63 out of 71 authorized coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 3,114 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 156,391 she said.

Meanwhile, 1,606 more people have recovered from the novel coronavirus in within this time, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 68,048 the health official further added in the briefing.

Notably, the first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.

The coronavirus, which was first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Friday afternoon, a total of 11,002,535 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, and the death toll has risen to 524,436 while 6,164,678 patients have been recovered, according to worldometer’s data.
