Bangladesh reports 2199 cases, 21 deaths in 24 hrs

The tally of infections in Bangladesh has surged to 239,807 after 2199 new COVID-19 cases were detected in the last 24 hours. Besides, 21 more fatalities from the virus have been reported during the time, rising the death toll from the pandemic to 3,132.

DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) online on Saturday

A total of 8802 samples have been tested at 82 authorized coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 2199 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 239,807 she said.

Meanwhile, 1,117 more people have recovered from the novel coronavirus in the within this time, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 136,253, the health official further added in the briefing.

Notably, the first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.

The coronavirus, which was first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and two international conveyances. As of Saturday afternoon, a total of 17,778,646 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, and the death toll has risen to 683,389 while 11,177,132 patients have been recovered, according to worldometer’s data.
