Bangladesh reports 16 more deaths, 718 new cases

As many as 16 more COVID-19 patients died in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 7,819 in the country. Besides, the tally of infections has surged to 5,24,020 as 718 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) came up with the information in a press release on Tuesday.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
Meanwhile, 578,251 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus around the world while 9,291 died from the pandemic in the last 24 hours. The United States has registered the highest number of deaths from the pandemic and infections during the period.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 218 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of this afternoon, a total of 91,384,812 people has been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 1,955,033 while 65,403,676 patients have recovered, according to Worldometers data.
