Bangladesh records three-month high in cases

Bangladesh has recorded 1865 new cases in the last 24 hours, which is the highest of daily coronavirus infections in three months. With this, the tally of infections has surged to 5,62,752 in the country.
Besides, 11 more people have died from the coronavirus during the period, raising the death toll to 8608, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in a press release on Wednesday (March 17, 2021).
Earlier on Monday, 1719 COVID-19 patients were diagnosed while 26 deaths related to the disease were reported.
According to the release, the recovery count rose to 515,989 after another 1510 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the period.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 219 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of this afternoon, a total of 121,366,461 people has been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 2,684,209 while 97,857,535 patients have recovered, according to Worldometers data.
