Bangladesh has reported the highest single-day deaths from Covid-19 in the preceding 24 hours as 264 people died of the virus, raising the death toll to 21,902. On the other hand, the total caseload stood at 13,22,654 as 12,744 more tested positive for the virus during the same time.

It was said in a press release signed by professor Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) today.

Dhaka division alone saw 87 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours while the Chattogram division reported 56 deaths during the same time. Among the dead, 140 were male and 124 were female.

DGHS said 27.12 percent of the 46,995 samples collected in 24 hours were tested positive.

The recovery count rose to 11,56,943 after another 15,786 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the same time.

The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 87.47 percent recovered, while 1.66 percent died.

Earlier, 241 Covid-19 deaths and 13,817 cases were reported on Tuesday (August 3).

The previous highest single day deaths 258 from Covid-19 was recorded on Tuesday (July 27).

The first Covid-19 cases were reported in Bangladesh on March 8, 2020, and the first deaths on March 18.
