The economy of many rich countries is on a downturn due to the coronavirus epidemic. Bangladesh's economy is forecast to achieve a growth rate this fiscal year albeit slightly in South Asia, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNESDA) reported.

UNESDA, which deals with economic and social issues, said in a report that the GDP of Bangladesh has increased to 0.5 percent in 2020.

In FY2019-20, Bangladesh's GDP growth has increased by 4.3 percent, according to the report. While the GDP of India has decreased to 5.7 percent, Pakistan to 1.2 percent, Bhutan to zero percent, and Nepal to 0.5 percent.

The UN report says that the economic situation of many countries will change in the current fiscal year. Bangladesh's GDP growth will be 5.1 percent, India's 7 percent, Pakistan's 0.5 percent, Bhutan's 3.5 percent, Maldives's 9.9 percent, Afghanistan's 4.4 percent, and Sri Lanka's 3.1 percent.

Although many countries have turned around despite the global epidemic, there is a risk, said the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs. Growth depends on how Covid-19 will affect the world.

The GDP of South Asian countries can be reduced by about 10 percent. Which may increase poverty and inequality rapidly, UN DESA cautioned.
