Bangladesh moves up one notch in passport index

Bangladesh has moved up one notch in the latest edition of the Henley Passport Index. Out of a total 110 countries on the index, Bangladesh now ranks 100th, according to the Henley Passport Index 2021.

The Henley Index is the main ranking of passports in all countries of the world. The index is based on how many countries can be visited without a previous visa.

Bangladeshi passport holders will be able to travel to 41 countries without prior visa, the index points out.

Last year, Bangladesh passport ranked 101st. This year Bangladesh shares the same spot with Lebanon and Sudan.

Japan and Singapore hold the top two spots in the index respectively, followed by South Korea and Germany in the third-place jointly.

Citizens of Japan and Singapore will be able to travel to 193 and 192 countries respectively without a visa.

The United States and the United Kingdom hold the 8th sport on the list. Passport holders of these two countries will be able to travel to 187 countries without a visa.

Among the South Asian countries, Maldives ranks 60th, India 84th, Bhutan 89th and Sri Lanka 99th this year.

Three South Asian countries ranked worse than Bangladesh with Nepal in 103rd, Pakistan in 107th and Afghanistan in 110th positions, shows the index.

Despite a military coup, neighbouring Myanmar has secured the 94th spot in the index with access to 47 destinations without prior visa.
