Bangladesh logs 17 more deaths, 990 new cases

As many as 17 people have died from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 7576 in the country. Besides, the tally of infections has surged to 5,14,500 as 990 new cases were confirmed during the period. 

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) came up with the information in a press release issued on Friday (January 1, 2021). 

The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases. 

Meanwhile, 738,692 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus around the world while 13,552 died from the pandemic in the last 24 hours. The United States has registered the highest number of deaths from the pandemic and infections during the period. 

The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 218 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of this afternoon, a total of 83,903,231 people has been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 1,827,789 while 59,402,197 patients have recovered, according to Worldometers data.
