Bangladesh cruised into the semifinals of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup with a 3-0 win over Sri Lanka in their last Group A fixture at the Bangabandhu National Stadium today.

Matin Mia scored first goal with the assist of midfielder Manik Hossain Mollah in the 17th minute of the match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday. In the first half, Bangladesh made several sharp attacks but did find the net. Sohail Rana-Sufil went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

Bangladesh continued to play more aggressively in the second half and the result also comes very quickly. Matin Mia was scored second time to extend the lead 2-0 in the 64th minute.

Ibrahim then tapped home the third goal in the 83rd minute, drawing the final nail on the coffin of Sri Lanka, who, like Bangladesh, came into the game on the back of a 2-0 defeat against defending champions Palestine.

Acting captain Tapu Barman left the field after seeing the second yellow card at the last moment of the match. The rest of the time no one could score a goal, Bangladesh won the match 3-0.

The veteran defender will miss the semifinal against Burundi on January 23, with the hosts already grappling with a number of injuries.
