Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) has granted for the emergency use of Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines in Bangladesh.

This information was given in a circular signed by Major General Mahbubur Rahman, DGDA Director General on Thursday. Now there is no legal impediment to the import and use of this vaccine.

Bangladesh had previously only approved the AstraZeneca, Russia's Sputnik-V, and China's Sinofarm vaccine. Pfizer is the fourth approved vaccine to be used in the country.

Earlier, Dhaka sent a letter to Washington seeking vaccination from the United States. In that letter, Bangladesh asked for a vaccine as a gift. If not, Bangladesh has agreed to buy the vaccine from them, the letter said.
