Bangladesh national football team made a brilliant start beating Sri Lanka by 1-0 in first match of the SAFF Championship at National Football Stadium in Male, the capital of Maldives today.

The first half of the match remained goalless. Topu Barman netted the only goal for the men in red-green at 56 minutes of the match.

From the beginning of the first match, Bangladesh continued to play by dominating the ball possession and attack. But the forwards have failed every time they attack. Oscar Brujan's side created several chances in the first half, but they did not execute it properly.

That's why the first half was goalless. From the beginning of the second half, Bangladesh became desperate for a goal. So midfielder Jewel Rana was picked up and Saad Uddin was fielded. Then comes the desired moment in 55 minutes.

Syrian referee Fairs Towel referee blew the whistle for a penalty when Sri Lankan defender Daxon Puslas handed the ball in the D-box. The referee showed him a second yellow card and a red card at the same time. As a result, the Lankans became a team of 10 men.

Tapu Barman did not make any mistake to score from the spot-kick. The Maldives National Football Stadium roared with his goal. After that, Bangladesh created several more opportunities for the rest of the time. But if someone fails to score, the red and greens left the field with a 1-0 victory.
