Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka in 2nd ODI to clinch series

After Mushfiqur Rahim's eight-ton bowlers did the rest to clinch the three-match ODI series against the visiting Sri Lanka on Tuesday with a 103-run victory in the DLS method in the second game at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Bangladesh won the first match by 33 runs.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal chose to bat first and post 246 before all out in 48.1 overs. Mushfiqur Rahim's 125 runs off 127 balls helped the Tigers to post a fighting total.

In reply, Sri Lanka lost wickets in regular intervals. Debutant Shoriful picked up Kusal Perera (14) to give first breakthrough to Bangladesh. Sri Lanka lost their first wicket on 24. Bangladesh pace sensation Mustafizur Rahman made the second breakthrough picking up wickets of Danushka Gunathilaka (24).

Shakib Al Hasan increased the woe for the visiting team picking up the wicket of Nissanka (20). From 71/3 Sri Lanka reduced to 89/5 leaving them backfoot. Regular wickets dent their hope of back in the match. Before rain stopped play Sri Lanka were 126/9 in 38 overs. 

Sri Lanka's revised target was set 245 but they finished 141/9 and Bangladesh won the game by 103 runs in the DSL method.

Mustafizur Rahman and Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up three wickets each while Shakib Al Hasan took 2 wickets and Debutant Shoriful bagged one wicket. 

Earlier, wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim made his eight hundred in the second ODI against visiting Sri Lanka at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today. In a brilliant knock that featured 10 fours, Mushfiqur had to begin cautiously. That was because at one point Bangladesh was tottering at 49/3. However, Bangladesh scored 246 before Mushfiqur Rahim dismissed as the last batsman in 48.1 over.

The wicketkeeper-batsman reached the magic figure with a four off Chameera. Mushfiqur finished on 125 off 127  balls.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal chose to bat first in the second ODI against Sri Lanka. 

Tamim Iqbal was looking good who hit three fours in the first over but dismissed for 13 to Chameera. Tamim was pinned right in front with an inswinger but the umpire doesn't move. Sri Lanka go for the review and it was out. 

Shakib Al Hasan (0) also dismissed in the same over of  Chameera leaving Bangladesh 15/2. Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim made some resistance in the 3rd wickets stand. Liton got a good start but this time he also dismissed the innocuous way by Sandakan and Bangladesh lost their third wickets to 49. Mosaddek Hossain, who was given chance in place of Mohammad Mithun, get a good start but end his innings when he went to flick a ball off Sandakan's full outside leg stump.

Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad once again made a partnership between them when Bangladesh were struggling. Bangladesh moved to 172 for five at the end of the 35th over, thanks to an 87-run fifth-wicket partnership between Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad.

These two had added 109 runs in the first ODI, and today they added 87 valuable runs before Mahmudullah (41) became the third victim of Lakshan Sandakan.

After losing Mahmudullah no other batsmen can give company to Mushfiqur who fought alone. Before went out as the last batsman Mushfiqur Rahim scored 125 off 127 deliveries. 

Before play halted due to rain Bangladesh were 195/7 in 41.1 over. Mushfiqur Rahim were in the batting scoring 85 off 105 balls and Mohammad Saif Uddin on 2 off 14.

After rain play resumed and continued only 14 balls before the play stopped by rain again. Mushfiqur Rahim (96) and Mohammad Saif Uddin 8 were in the batting. Bangladesh 213/7 in 43.3 over.

For Sri Lanka, Dushmantha Chameera and Lakshan Sandakan bagged 3 wickets each while Isuru Udana took 2 wickets and Wanindu Hasaranga picked one wicket. 

The third and final ODI of the series will be held at the same vennue on May 28.
