Rahkeem Cornwall took five wickets

Bangladesh bagged 296 runs after losing all the wickets, resulting in the West Indies' lead by 113 runs in the first innings of the 2d test held at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in the capital on Saturday.

Caribbean spinner Rahkeem Cornwall stormed the Bangladesh batting line-up and took five wickets in 74 runs. 

Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Mithun, the two unbeaten batsmen of the second day, started batting on the third day in the morning. The Tigers lost 4 wickets for 71 runs. From there Mushfiqur and Mithun added a 71-run partnership.

Mushfiqur ‘gave’ the wicket after Mithun was dismissed for 15 runs in Cornwall’s ball. Before this, he completed his career’s 22nd half-century. After losing six wickets for 155 runs, Bangladesh was in fear of follow-on. However, Liton and Miraz took the helm of the team from there.

Two late-middle order batsmen took the resistance pair to 126 runs. Liton returned to the pavilion in the Cornwall’s ball for 71 runs. The offspinner took five wickets by returning Nayeem Hasan (0). 

Miraz scored 57 runs with one end in front. Shannon Gabriel returned him. Joseph hit the last blow in the Bangladesh camp by returning Abu Jayed Rahi who scored only 1 run. 

Earlier, West Indies won the toss and elected to bat on Thursday. Their first innings ended on the second day. The Caribbeans were all out for 409 runs. For the visitors, Nkrumah Bonner scored 90, Joshua Da Silva 92 and Alzarri Joseph 72.

Among the Bangladesh bowlers – Abu Jayed Rahi and Taijul Islam took four wickets each while Soumya Sarkar and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took one wicket each.
