Bangladesh has approved the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech for emergency use. This is the 5th vaccine to be approved for emergency use in the country.
In a statement on Sunday morning, the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA) said Incepta Vaccine Limited is the distributor of the vaccine in the country.
It has been reported that the DGDA gave the nod on June 3 as Incepta applied for the approval of the vaccine on behalf of Sinovac.
Earlier on Tuesday (June 1), the World Health Organization (WHO) approved the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use listing, paving the way for a second Chinese shot to be used in poor countries.
The WHO Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) recommends the use of Sinovac-CoronaVac vaccine as 2 doses (0.5 ml) given intramuscularly. WHO recommends an interval of 2–4 weeks between the first and second dose.
