Work on the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center project at Purbachal near the capital has been completed. The construction firm of China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) will hand over the center to the Bangladesh Government on Sunday, the sources of Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) said.
According to sources, the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) was scheduled to hold this year at the exhibition center, built on 20-acres of land in Purbachal. However, the fair is not likely to be held at the moment due to coronavirus. However, the month-long International Trade Fair will be held here every year.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Commerce has informed that the construction firm CSCEC, a Chinese state-owned company, will formally hand over the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center Complex to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) on Sunday (February 8). Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi will be present on the occasion at 10:30 am.
The project, which started in 2017, cost Tk 796 crore - Tk 625 crore of which was donated by China Aid. Apart from hosting the upcoming international trade fair, the government plans to exhibit exportable goods throughout the year.
Going ahead along the 300-feet Road after crossing the Kuril Biswa Road of the capital, one finds Kanchan Bridge. Turning left from there is the exhibition centre, a spectacular sight to behold, situated on 20-acres of land.
An open space hits visitors while entering through the main gate of the exhibition center. To the east and west are two 7,000 square feet exhibition halls with a food court in front of them. There is a multi-functional conference room on the second floor with a seating capacity of 460 people. In addition, there is space for children to play.
The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and Commerce Ministry have been organising DITF, the month-long annual fair, since 1995. Since the beginning, local companies have used the opportunity of the trade fair to popularise their brands. City dwellers have also shown great enthusiasm in visiting the fair.
