Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday said Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib was not only Bangabandhu’s wife but also she was Bangabandhu’s all-time political comrade.
He said this in a briefing from his official residence after paying homage at Banani Cemetery on the occasion of the 90th birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib in the capital.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman not only became the Father of the Bengali Nation and the creator of Bangladesh by leading the long liberation struggle and Liberation War of the Bengalis but also he became world-renowned politician and statesman where his wife Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib played an important role in Bangabandhu’s becoming a statesman, Obaidul Quader said.
Eleanor Roosevelt, another world-famous woman, has a lot in common with Bangamata Begum Mujib. Eleanor Roosevelt, the wife of four-time United States President and longtime President Franklin D. Roosevelt, he also said, adding, “Begum Mujib and Eleanor Roosevelt both lost their parents in childhood. Both played an outstanding role in their husband’s politics.”
The difference between the two was that Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib had made a direct contribution to the independence of the state, where this did not happen for Eleanor Roosevelt, said Obaidul Quader.
He said that just before Bangabandhu’s call for Independence, that is, his speech on March 7, Bangamata was the ultimate inspiration to the Father of the Nation.
“Bangamata Mujib is the inspiration behind all the glories including the independence of the country,” said Awami League General Secretary.
