Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau said that the vision of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has become a reality. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has shown that a long-lasting change in history is possible because of one person.

He made remarks in a visual message on the occasion of Bangabandhu’s birth anniversary on Wednesday (March 17).

The Canadian premier said Bangabandhu’s vision became a reality because the founding father of Bangladesh put his people first.

“My friends, today is a time for reflection and celebration. We reflect upon the legacy of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman – 100 years after his birth – and celebrate 50 years of independence,” he said.

“Something we are able to celebrate (50 years’ of independence) today because of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s vision for an independent and democratic country, one which built on his love for its people.”

Canadian Prime Minister said, “Bangladesh has changed a lot since 1983 when I visited Bangladesh with my father. The country has made unprecedented progress in the last 50 years. During this time, economic growth has increased, poverty decreased, education and health care expanded. This has created new opportunities for the people of the country.”

“Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had a strong relationship with my father,” Trudeau said. “The two countries have maintained strong ties since then. Bangladesh has undergone a radical transformation in the social and economic spheres and Canada is a partner in this journey. We have contributed to the growth of Bangladesh and are assisting in various developments including women economic empowerment. Canada is committed to working with Bangladesh on other issues, including child health and education, skills development for the youth community.”
