Bangabandhu’s killer Abdul Majed held

Captain (Retired) Abdul Majed, one of the fugitive convicted killers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibuir Rahman and his family, has been arrested.

He was arrested from a residence in the capital's Mirpur area around 3:30 pm on Monday.

Sharif Mahmud Apu, public relations officer to the home minister, confirmed the information to Daily Bangladesh. 

Senior police official sources said that tipped off, a team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) - a specialized branch of Bangladesh Police - arrested him. Later, he was handed over to Pallabi police station. He has already been sent to the court. 

On November 19, 2009, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld the death penalty of 12 convicted persons including Abdul Majed for the assassination of Bangabandhu and his family members. 

Later in January 2010, five killers of Bangabandhu - Syed Farooq Rahman, Sultan Shahriar Rashid Khan, Bazlul Huda, AKM Mohiuddin Ahmed and Mohiuddin Ahmed - were hanged. Another killer Aziz Pasha had met natural death in Zimbabwe in 2001. 

The remaining five fugitive killers are - Khandaker Abdur Rashid, SHBM Noor Chowdhury, Shariful Haque Dalim, Rashed Chowdhury and Risaldar Moslehuddin.
