Barishal University (BU) VC Professor Dr. Md. Sadequl Arefin strongly condemned the armed attack on its students and demanded justice for those involved in the incident.
He said it was a brutal attack. We will take legal action against the culprits after consultation with concerned people.
He came up with the comments while speaking to students protesting in front of the campus following the attack on Wednesday (February 17).
He also assured that the university family would bear the expenses of the students injured in the attack.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Sadequl Arefin said, “We sat down with representatives of the agitating students. I heard what they wanted to say. They have made three demands to us - the immediate arrest of those involved, ensuring the safety of the students themselves, and prosecuting those involved from the university.
"We have reassured the students about these issues. We will inform them of our decision after the discussion. At this time he urged the students to stop protests and open the blocked road for vehicular movements.
The incident comes after BU students had blockaded the Barishal-Kuakata highway yesterday in protest after two of their fellows were assaulted at the BRTC Bus Stand inside the campus.
Rafik, a transport worker, allegedly stabbed Sajal, a BU student, following a brawl. Police later arrested Rafik following which the blockade ended.
