Today is the 53th founding anniversary of the state-owned Television network Bangladesh Television (BTV).

Marking the founding anniversary of BTV, a get-together and cultural programme, participated by prominent and promising artistes, and technicians, will be held on the day at Rampura TV Bhaban in the capital. All well-wishers are also cordially invited to the event to be held from 7 pm to 2 am.

It started its journey as Dhaka Television on 25 December, 1964. It launched its test transmission from a small floor of DIT Building in Dhaka. Later, it was renamed Bangladesh Television after the independence in 1971.

During its long journey, BTV played a vital role in different democratic movements including the six-point charter movement in 1966, mass upsurge in 1969, general election in 1970 and the anti-autocratic movement.

Apart from broadcasting news, Bangladesh Television gained popularity amongst the people through airing different kinds of programmes including drama, feature films, education, magazine programmes and documentaries.
