BMP calls for arrest involved in Nilphamari incident

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) has called for raising social awareness across the country to prevent women and children from being abused. At the same time, the organization has demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the incident of the suicide of JSC examiners who could not bear the brunt of the teasing in the Nilphamari.

Foggia Moslem, chairman of the Central Committee of the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad and general secretary Malaika Banu said this in a statement sent to the press on Tuesday.

They demanded a fair investigation into the Nilphamari incident and to ensure the safety of the victim's family.

According to the statement, Kawashar Ali, son of Abdul Jalil, had been harassing the JSC examiner of multipurpose high school in Kishoreganj upazila of Nilphamari for few days last. Kawashar harassed her on the way back from the JSC last exam last Saturday. There were also tensions and clashes in the villagers following this incident. The next morning, the schoolgirl came to the door of the house and Kawachor and called her 'Bou'(as a wife). At that time, the schoolgirl ran out and closed the door of her room. Later, the family members broke the door and found hanged. Then they rushed her to the upazila hospital where doctors declared her dead.
