BGMEA’s new building to be inaugurated today

The BGMEA office is departing from Hatirjheel. The new building of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), a top organization of ready-made garment and exporters, is being built on the land area of Uttara Sector 17 in the capital’s Uttara area. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the new office of BGMEA at 11:30 am on Wednesday through video conferencing from Ganobhaban. 

The BGMEA leaders have made preparations to move the office after defeating in a case that was going for the last eight years and took time in phases.  

The construction work of the 13-storey building with two towers of Uttara is in full swing to move BGMEA activities from Hatirjheel. In the meantime, the work of the 5-storey building with the basements was completed. The 40-square-foot exhibition hall is being constructed in the capital’s Uttara Sector 17 in the lakeside view on 5 bighas of land.

The BGMEA president Siddiqur Rahman confirmed the media and said that they are going to leave the Hatirjheel building and move to Uttara’s new building within the time given by the court.

It is to be noted that the court has ordered to demolish the building in the Hatirjheel project area due to non-possession of land and violation of the reservoir law. BGMEA will leave the building by April 12.
