BCL’s 73rd founding anniversary today

The 73rd founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) is observing through different programmes today (Monday, January 4, 2021).
The largest student organization having a glorious heritage of struggle and success, the Chhatra League came into being on 4 January 1948 at the instruction of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with a view to attaining the country’s Independence.
The president of the organization Al Nahian Khan Joy and the general secretary Lekhak Bhattacharya greeted all on the occasion of the 73rd founding anniversary.
Marking the anniversary, the BCL has taken various programmes.
The day’s programmes started with hoisting national and party flags at party offices at 7:00 am, placing of wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi road-32 at 8:00 am, cutting of cake at Dhaka University Curzon Hall at 9:00 am.
Besides, the delegation of Central Chhatra League will pay homage at the tomb of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara in Gopalganj at 10:00 am, recite Surah Fateha and offer prayers for the souls of Bangabandhu’s family members and martyrs.
Meanwhile, the founding inauguration will be held at 3:30 pm. Marking the anniversary, BCL is going to arrange a discussion meeting at 4:00 pm at Krishibid Institution in the capital. Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will be the chief guest at the meeting.
Winter clothes and health protection items will be distributed among the destitute at the TSC self-acquired Swadhinata Chattar of Dhaka University on 6 January at 11:00 am. A voluntary blood donation campaign will be held at 10:00 am at Bottola beside Aparajeya Bangla in Dhaka University on 8 January at 11:00 am.
Leaders and workers of all units of Bangladesh Chhatra League (District, Metropolitan, Upazila, Thana, Municipal) have been invited to attend the discussion meeting to be held on 4 January at 4:00 pm by attending the party office with proper hygiene guidelines. At the same time, the announced programs have been directed to be implemented in their respective units at convenient times.
The BCL has been leading all democratic and progressive movements in the country since its foundation in 1948. This organization attained victory in all struggles in exchange for great sacrifices.
The organization’s president Al Nahian Khan Joy and general secretary Lekhak Bhattacharya took full charge of the Central Committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League on 4 January 2020 at the 72nd founding anniversary. Earlier, both of them were acting in-charge from 16 September 2019.
The BCL played pioneering roles in the language movement in 1952, in the victory of Jukta Front in 1954 polls, anti-Aiyub movement in 1958, education movement in 1962, six-point movement in 1966, mass upsurge in 1969, elections in 1970, the great Liberation War in 1971, rehabilitation activities in post-war Bangladesh, a movement for restoration of democracy after 1975 changeover, the student movement in 1983 and anti-autocratic movement in 1990.
