BCL men assist in harvesting Boro paddy in Rangpur

The district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) continues assisting the farmers in harvesting Boro paddy to overcome the crisis of farm-laborers in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in the district.

Led by President of district BCL Mehede Hasan Rony, a group of its 20 to 25 leaders are organizing local leaders and workers of the students’ organization at the Upazila and union levels for harvesting Boro paddy on the fields of farmers since Wednesday last.

Rony said BCL leaders and workers have come forward responding to the call of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in harvesting and threshing Boro paddy, drying, and packaging those to bring smiles on the faces of farmers.

“We will continue harvesting Boro paddy to assist farmers till the end of harvesting season under the present coronavirus situation,” he said.

Vice-presidents of district BCL Nure Alam Khushi, Shariful Islam Sharif, and Rokunuzzaman Sagar, it's Joint General Secretary Mostafa Parvez Jeon, Organizing Secretaries Abu Hossain, Adnan Hossain, and Atikur Rahman Atik, Health Affairs Secretary Yasin Arafat Shuvo and other leaders are assisting Rony in managing the paddy harvesting process.

“I led a group of 25 leaders and workers of BCL to complete harvesting, threshing, drying and packaging of Boro paddy on 75 decimals of cropland of farmer Dulal Roy in village Uzirpur of Pirganj Upazila in the district on Wednesday,” Roy said.

Later, Rony with 67 leaders and workers of the district, Pirganj Upazila and local union level units of BCL harvested Boro paddy on three acres of land of farmer Babul Miah in village Ramnathpur of Ramnathpur union in the same Upazila on Thursday.

“After harvesting Boro paddy of farmer Babul Miah, we thrashed those, dried up the paddy, packed and reached the crop to the houses of the farmer within a few hours strictly maintaining physical distance,” Rony added.

They will resume harvesting of Boro paddy on the fields of other farmers in Sadar Upazila of the district from Sunday after distributing foodstuffs, Iftar and Sehri items among the distressed people today and tomorrow.

“We will harvest Boro paddy in all eight Upazilas of the district to assist rural farmers on humanitarian ground amid the coronavirus situation that has caused a crisis of farm-laborers,” Rony added.

Farmer Babul Miah of village Ramnathpur expressed deep gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and BCL leaders to assist him in harvesting Boro paddy on his three acres of land free of costs.
