The 29th council of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the ruling party Awami League, will begin at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Friday after around three years.

Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to inaugurate the two-day council at 3:00 pm by hoisting national and party flags as the chief guest while BCL president Saifur Rahman Sohag will preside over the session.

Names of Bangladesh Chhatra League committee’s new president and secretary will be declared on the second day of the council, on Saturday.

According to sources, as many as 325 nomination forms were sold. Of them, 125 leaders collected forms for president post while the rest will be competing for the post of general secretary.

But there is still uncertainty over the process, whether they would be selected or elected.

Apart from that, names of top leaders of Dhaka University unit, Dhaka South unit and Dhaka North unit BCL committees may also be announced in the council.

Although the councils of these three units were already held in April, they are yet to get top leaders.

Bangladesh Chhatra League, the country`s oldest student organization, began its journey on January 4, 1948, with the fundamentals of education, peace and progress.
