Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam said that in addition to Aedes, everyone should come forward to stop Culex mosquitoes from breeding.

He came up with the comments while inaugurating a special campaign to eradicate Aedes and Culex mosquitoes at Taltala Natunbagh water pump area in Capital's Khilgaon area on Saturday.

The DNCC mayor said Aedes mosquitoes are born in the clear water of homes and Culex mosquitoes are born in the opaque dirty water of canals, beels, lakes, ponds, drains, water hyacinths, etc. Garbage should be kept in certain places without littering and mosquitoes should be prevented from breeding by keeping their homes and surroundings clean and tidy.

He said the city needs to have well-planned reservoirs to solve the waterlogging problem but there is no flow of water in the canals due to illegal occupation and filling, so the illegal occupants will be evicted without notice.

The mayor said, "If any citizen uploads a picture of garbage through 'Sabar Dhaka' mobile app, it will be cleaned up as soon as possible."

Among others, chief DNCC health officer, Brigadier General Jobaidur Rahman, Chief Waste Management Officer Capt. S. M. Sharif-ul Islam, Chief Property Officer Mozammel Haque, and local councilor Shakhawat Hossain were present.
