Arrested Iqbal threw grenades at Sheikh Hasina’s stage: RAB DG

Iqbal Hossain, life imprisonment convicted accused in the 21 August Grenade Attack case who was arrested on Monday night, threw grenades to the meeting stage of Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina held on August 21, 2004.
RAB Director General (DG) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun said this at a press conference held at RAB Media Center at Karwan Bazar in the capital on Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Iqbal Hossain in a raid at the Diabari area in the capital on Monday night.
Citing preliminary interrogation, RAB DG said that the militant Iqbal, son of Abdul Majid Molla, a resident of Jhenaidah. Iqbal’s educational qualification is SSC. While studying in school, he was involved in student politics. “The militant Iqbal also introduced himself as Jahangir and Selim,” he added.
It is to be mentioned that a grenade attack was carried out on 21 August 2004 afternoon at an Awami League rally at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital. The attack killed 24 people, including Ivy Rahman, the then women’s affairs secretary of the Awami League and the wife of the late President Zillur Rahman.
Hundreds of Awami League leaders and activists, including Awami League President and current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, were injured. Many of them are still living a miserable life with grenade splinters on their bodies.
