The government has approved to detect the coronavirus or Covid-19 through antigen-based rapid tests at government health centers.
The announcement was made on Monday through a gazette notification signed by Bilkis Begum, deputy secretary of Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
“We have issued a notification to allow antigen-based testing in healthcare,” said Bilkis Begum.
Antigen-based testing has been allowed in all government hospitals, district hospitals, government PCR labs and all health institutions as per the proposal of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) and the World Health Organization’s (WHO) interim guidelines, the notification said.
The DGHS, on July 5, sent a letter to the Ministry of Health seeking permission for the antigen-based Covid-19 test.
The National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 has also made several recommendations.
