Andy Flower appointed Afghanistan`s consultant

Afghanistan's participation in the T20 World Cup was in doubt after the Taliban seized power. However, the team are participating lagging behind all doubts, before the start of the global competition, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) gave a kind of surprise by appointing former Zimbabwe cricketer and England World Cup-winning coach Andy Flower as their mentor.

ACB said in a statement on Friday that former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower would serve as the Afghan team's consultant in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Andy Flower was the England coach from 2009 to 2014. Under him, the English won the 2010 T20 World Cup, their first ICC trophy.

"We are delighted that Andy has joined ACB. Andy has worked with the number of our players in different franchise competitions and he has vast experience will be very beneficial and useful to help the team in the World Cup," ACB Chairman Azizullah Fazli said in a statement. 

Andy Flower has played 63 Tests and 213 ODIs for Zimbabwe before switching to coaching. In addition to the England national team, he has coaching experience in the IPL, CPL, PSL and The Hundred.

The Afghanistan team left for Qatar from Kabul on October 6. They are waiting for the UAE visas.
