Ambulance hit pickup in Tangail: Death toll soars 5

The death toll from the collision between an ambulance and a fish-laden pickup van on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway in Kalihati Upazila, Tangail on Saturday morning has climbed to five. Another five were injured in the incident.

The identity of the three causalities was obtained. They are – Farida, wife of Morshed of Chattogram city’s Hali area, her daughter Maria and Farida’s elder sister Ferdous Ara. The identity of the rest of the two was not found.  

Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station OC Shahidul Islam said a North Bengal-bound ambulance carrying a cancer patient was hit by a Dhaka-bound fish-laden pickup van. 3 people died on the spot. 6 more people were injured. After rescuing the injured and sending them to Tangail General Hospital, two more died while undergoing treatment there.

The OC further said the vehicles involved in the accident have been shifted from the highways. The bodies will be handed over to the victims after confirming their identity.
