Badalgachhi in Naogaon has recently been declared ‘hundred percent electrified’. Officials and employees of Badalgachhi Palli Bidyut Zonal Office are working day and night to provide an uninterrupted power supply. Linemen are working with the most risk. In recognition of their work, the power department has given them the title of ‘Durjoge Alor Guerrilla’ (Guerrillas of Light in Disaster).

When there is no electricity, the customers scold the officials and employees of the Palli Bidyut in various languages. There is always a problem with the open wire power connection. And if there is a storm and rain, the power supply in different places cut off, resulting in unlimited problems for the linemen.

The linemen of Palli Bidyut run from house to house to fix the power supply day and night. They run with a stick in hand to fix the fault in the power line. They have no time limit for works.

According to Badalgachhi Palli Bidyut Zonal Office, there are about 57,000 customers in the upazila – 19 linemen are working in the field to serve them. Even if the power supply cut off in the middle of the night, the linemen rushed for repair immediately and turn on the lights as soon as possible.

All officers and employees including Md. Rafiqul Islam, DGM of Badalgachhi Palli Bidyut Zonal Office, are giving overall cooperation and guidance. “Even though the line was damaged in the storm before and after Eid, we have overcome the problem and started the line quickly,” said DGM Md. Rafiqul Islam.

As per the Prime Minister’s directive to provide electricity to every household and as announced by the Chairman of the Rural Electrification Board, the Palli Bidyut works in such a way that the customers get uninterrupted electricity service, he also said.

Kola UP customer Md Rubel Hossain said, there have been two storms in the area including Amphan recently. “We thought there was no hope of getting electricity in a week. But under the direction of DGM, the linemen worked at the risk of their lives and connected the electricity very quickly.”

About this, lineman Saidul Islam said, line faults occur in different places every day. We are working in the field day and night to keep the electricity service running.
