The district administration has announced an all-out lockdown for seven days in the Khulna metropolis and districts due to the surge of COVID-19 cases and deaths.
The lockdown will be effective from Tuesday (June 22).
The decision was made at an emergency meeting of the district coronavirus prevention committee on Saturday afternoon.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain said the decision was taken because of the alarming rise of coronavirus infections and deaths in Khulna. The restrictions imposed earlier will continue on Sunday and Monday.
He added that public transport in the Khulna metropolis and district will be completely suspended during the lockdown. All shops and businesses will be closed except for medicines and emergency raw materials.
