International cricket has been returning to the country as the West Indies will set foot in Dhaka on 10 January to play three Tests and two ODIs. Therefore, the cricketers who were initially called up to the Bangladesh team for the upcoming home series all passed the first stage of the Covid-19 test.

The Tigers’ Covid-19 sample test was conducted on Thursday. The results obtained on Friday showed that all the cricketers in this stage had Covid negative. As a result, there is no longer any barrier to their entry into the Bio-bubble Protection.

44 cricketers have been called into the preliminary squad for the upcoming series. Of these – 24 have been called for ODIs and 20 for Tests. There are 12 names in both the lists.

Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mohammad Mithun, Liton Das, Yasir Ali Rabbi, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud have been named in both the ODI and Test teams.

Out of them, 10 names are on the ODI list. They are - Mahmudullah Riyad, Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Saifuddin, Afif Hossain, Al Amin Hossain, Shariful Islam, Nasum Ahmed, Parvez Hossain Emon, Sheikh Mehedi Hasan and Rubel Hossain.

Only Mominul Haque, Saif Hasan, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Sadman Islam, Abu Jayed Rahi, Syed Khaled Ahmed, Nayeem Hasan and Ebadat Hossain are in the Test squad.

However, Test captain Mominul and off-spinner Nayeem Hasan are not getting a chance to enter the team’s Bio-bubble Protection at the moment as both of them are having injury problems. They will only be able to go to the team hotel once they are fully recovered.

The team’s head coach Russell Domingo is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka this afternoon. Fielding coach Ryan Cook and pace bowling coach Ottis Gibson arrived in Dhaka this morning. They can also go into the Bio-bubble Protection only after the Covid-19 test.
